OUGD602 - DESIGN MANCHESTER - CONFERENCE

OUGD602
DESIGN MANCHESTER
CONFERENCE

I recently decided to book a last minute ticket to the Design Manchester conference. Researching further in to the speakers i decided there was a couple of people that it would be great to speak/listen to in regards to my dissertation. In particular Rob Lowe of Anorak magazine and the guys from Unit Editions.

Now in its second year the festival seeks to inspire and educate, working alongside key partners: the Manchester School of Art, as well as the Design Council, the RSA Faculty of Royal Designers and APDIG. Design Manchester is curated by a passionate team of creatives, with our Ambassador Malcolm Garrett RDI who will again host the main conference alongside David Crow, the Dean of the School of Art. Design Manchester will take place in some of the city’s most iconic venues, giving you an opportunity to engage in numerous events from lively debates to industry networking.

Out of all the days I have chosen to go to the core festival day which is detail below. One thing I wanted to achieve in my personal practice was to attend more industry professional talks as a source of influence and a way of gaining more contacts and networking. Also I am really inspired by the speakers that are talking at this event, especially Peter Saville as he is known for his iconic designs for factory records and the hacienda which feeds into my interest for design for music.

Design Manchester proved greatly beneficial in my research in to my dissertation. I plan to contact bot Unit Editions and Rob Lowe with further questions regarding my dissertation and general research for my design practice. I am glad that i bit the bullet and planned my last minute trip to Manchester. It was also a great opportunity to visit a vibrant, creative city. Whilst in Manchester after the conference i also got to visit another exhibition going on else where in the city.
